10. Hi

Well, well, well... it's been so awful long, I'm afraid I've done a terrible job keeping up with the blog over this past month, though I have been busy..
Just quickly: I've added a couple of new songs and a link to the video for my cover of The Strokes 'Falling Out Of Love For the First Time' under the Portfolio, and I've got some new art pieces that I'll be taking stock of and getting put up momentarily. I'm still in the process of re-designing the whole website to flow in a much better way, but sometimes I get overwhelmed with larger endeavors and I feel like having the wild hair to redesign the site kind of blocked me temporarily from keeping it up to date, so I'm working on finishing up this revamp so that I can start treating it like a therapeutic place for myself rather than something that is looming over my head to improve. My ADHD is really the culprit, and sometimes the simplest tasks can feel so incredibly daunting that I run away and avoid things altogether. But I'm back and making a simple entry feels like the start of a positive step in the right direction.
Does anyone else feel like so much has happened since the end of April/beginning of May? I feel like my life is constantly shifting and there are moving pieces that are being rearranged on the daily. All of it has been welcomed, and necessary, but I feel at times that it's difficult to really get a handle on things before something changes or a new element is introduced. No complaints, just observation. Things speeding up, things gaining momentum, life happening.
I have been so insanely inspired as of late. I've been writing and recording more music than I probably ever have in a single time frame. It started with the idea of facing my 'writers block' by choosing some songs to cover & record. Once that happened, I found that my own inspiration came flooding back and the songs have not stopped coming since. I'm tapped in, in the best way, and trying my best to make decent enough demos of things as the ideas come to me. Trying not to get too deep into figuring out every detail or obsessing over final lyrics/melodies/chord progressions. Really wanting to ride the muse as long as I can, but feeling more and more like she is here to stay and for that I am eternally grateful.
I have so many new songs that have been coming through. Some of them sad, reflective, a bit melancholy but in the way that is healing and helps to somehow make me feel like I'm transmuting some of this stuck energy I've had inside of me regarding past loves, experiences, heartbreaks, etc.
Other songs are coming through that feel charged with a new vitality, an energy that feels new, exciting and strong and a voice that is higher minded and speaking of more universal ideas, less about myself and my own life. These are the songs I'm really enjoying making. These are the ones that I go to sleep after working on for a night, and when I wake up in the morning and listen back, I find myself a bit curious as to where/when/how it came to me. And it feels like magic.
I'm still mixing and mastering the covers that I've completed, and I'll be putting them out as an EP once I figure out the logistics on how that all works and if I need permissions/etc. Singles are still coming out bi-weekly from the old set of recordings and when those are all out, I'll put them all on one LP for the streaming services. Just kind of going with the flow and not thinking too much about any of it. I want to just make music, so that's what I'll keep doing.
I started back with my old serving job at the Early Bird Diner. I forgot how meditative it can be to lose yourself in a simple environment for hours on end. I'm so lucky that this restaurant exists, and prior to leaving back in 2022 (around then?) it had been my sole bread winner for over a decade. It feels like family there and not much has changed in that regard. I feel so fortunate to have my spot back, and it feels like such a relief to be making money on my own again. I stopped working when I moved in with my ex. He took care of everything, so for awhile I didn't need to do anything, or even worry about money at all, and although that was a beautiful blip in time- it feels good to remember that I can support myself and still focus on my music and my art. At the end of the day, feeling sore, having been on my feet for more than I'm used to, having served and talked to so many people--coming and going--there's a certain kind of tired that hits and feels more like a reward than anything. I'm happy to remember this feeling again. I'm grateful for all of it, everything that has brought me full circle to this very moment in time, sitting here typing on my computer--Lucille with a full belly, candles lit, clean sheets, freshly showered, record playing, and smiling.
I was hoping with all of my being to be able to make it to a show last night in NY, but tickets were sold out and I wasn't able to get my shit together in time to make it all happen. Still on the lookout for the next opportunity to go to a show, or see a new place, meet some new people, spend time learning new faces. It always recharges me and I need periodic breaks from real life from time to time to remind me of the magic that exists out there. I'm really bummed I couldn't make this one happen but I'm sure there will be something else soon that I'll be eager to attend.
I'm going to make this a short entry because I promised myself not to make it too big of a task. I figure if I touched base, it will open the door again to writing, and make it more inviting for me to come back again tomorrow.
So, that's all for now. I love you. There's so much I want to say. I hope to say. I'm sending my whole heart to you every minute of every day. Thank you for reading and I'll be back again tomorrow.
Love and adoration,
Jenna Faline
